Candidate Statement
Now more than ever our generation needs to come together to face global challenges collectively.
Climate breakdown, social injustices and Brexit have left many of us feeling frustrated and disconnected from older generations and at times, hopeless.
There is, however, a powerful solution to these problems that we have the ability to enact as young people; unity. The power of the youth voice is strongest when it is unified across the world. The Youth Strikes for Climate have been a clear example of this power. While we are a generation that faces huge threats to our future, we are also one in which is more passionate and engaged with solving these threats than any previous generation.
We need to continue to build bridges across nations and strengthen relationships with our Young Green counterparts globally to bring about the radical change needed. I believe I can help contribute to this as part of the Young Greens team.
As your Young Green International Officer I will use my role to focus on the following:
- Build a strong relationship with the Federation of Young European Greens and the Global Young Greens.
- Draw support for local GPEW elections internationally and learn from other Young Green Parties’ successes.
- Run workshops and training sessions with other countries’ Young Greens to learn from, network with and share campaign ideas with each other.
- Develop a strong relationship with GPeX International Committee, including securing a seat on the committee to strengthen our voice and develop better intergenerational communication in the Green Party.
- Support the Young Greens’ mass mobilisation efforts across the country.
I believe I have the experience needed to fulfil this role for the Young Greens and represent our party globally.
This year I have been a European Green Party delegate for the Green Party of England and Wales at the joint annual Council. I learned the ins and outs of the European Green Party and began developing networks with other European Young Greens while helping develop joint policy. I will continue to grow these relationships in order to deliver my campaign promises.
I was also University of Bristol’s Green Society President. During the 2019 General Election, I led the student campaign for Carla Denyer, the Green Party candidate in Bristol West. The Young Greens Executive organised and provided a huge amount of help and resources which empowered our society to be more capable of supporting the local party’s campaign. I want to help contribute to the Young Greens empowering local groups, like they did for our group in Bristol.
I am currently the Green Party’s South West representative on GPRC . I am learning the internal mechanisms of our national party and the importance of representing local views to the national party. I will strive to be a representative for you and your views as part of the Young Greens team.
This year I have taken part in the 30 under 30 Young Greens Training Program. I have gained invaluable skills and knowledge in campaigning and Green Party policies as well as been inspired by the Young Greens Executive Committee and other 30u30 trainees. I have seen the power of young minds coming together and would love to help organise the next round of 30u30 as part of the YG’s EC.
Finally, I am currently the UK’s Youth Delegate to the Council of Europe, an international institution that has 47 member countries and promotes human rights, democracy and the rule of law across the European Continent. I work alongside many young European delegates, all of whom are passionate about environmental and social justice, and collaborate on international projects together. The opportunity to meet amazing young people from all different cultures has taught me to learn from our differences as well as our common goals.
I believe my experience in working alongside other young greens nationally and internationally, my experience as a representative for Green Party members and my experience in mobilising young people in Bristol make me the right fit for this job.
Thanks for reading and I hope you’ll consider voting for me!
