Candidate Statement
My name is Joshua Farrell, I am 18 years old. My interest in the Green Party started when I attend a husting at my high school. Barry Broom who was running for the Ipswich seat impressed me with his calm and controlled manner of debate, his ability to be able to answer all the questions and not dodge questions as other politicians did. This prompted my own political shift from centerist to left-wing. Furthermore, thanks to conversations with my friend Thea Pettitt who organised the Ipsiwch Climate Strike, my concern for the environment has reach a peak and I have had enough of inaction of the current political establisment. Growing up as gay man in a country town has been difficult, like many members of the LGBTQIA+ community I felt a level of isolation and an inability to access resources that would help individuals who are questioning their identity. As a group we need a support network so that young LGBTQIA+ people have a party that they can align themselves with, a party that will look out for their concerns and hopefully elimanate that isolation that many young LGBTQIA+ people feel. I would really enjoy this oppertunity to be part of a wider group and movement where I will be able to put my organisational skills to good use.
