Candidate Statement
I first became involved in the Green Party at the age of 13 during a small reconstruction of the General Election at my secondary school in 2015. I decided to attempt to run for the Green Party role at our school election, it was the peer pressure and lack of knowledge on climate change at my school that made me feel insecure about going for the role.
And It was then that I realised there would be no Climate justice, without Social Justice and began to read manifestoes, policies and understand more about the party as a whole. Over the last year I have become more involved with the Young Greens section of the party.
Having helped and gained experience in Carla Denyer’s 2019 campaign in Bristol West, I learned organisation and campaigning skills, whilst also canvassing on the university campus, familiarising myself with the priorities of students in today's world. I obtained a desire to continue my enthusiasm in politics and the young green party. I feel now more than ever - I would like to help and raise awareness of Social and Environmental topics surrounding our party and our members daily lives. This is why I would be honoured to develop and learn, by taking on the role of the Women Young Green Party Co-chair.
If elected, my main focus for the Women Young Greens would be to:
Change the terminology of language used in the Young Green Party, making it more inclusive for all members, for example to change Woman to Womxn. Meaning that Woman Young Greens will be far more inclusive for all members of Young Greens.
Invite guest speakers, from inside and outside of the party, to develop womens confidence in politics and speaking. Educate on LGBTIQA + rights and inclusivity in the party, and additionally have speakers specialising in climate refugees, and especially the impact on women and children around the world.
In addition being able setting up safe spaces to discuss increasing rates of mental health in women, and the feelings behind the eco-anxiety issues that are being raised around the world.
Educate members of the Young greens on the use of Sanitary products, as well as where to find Environmentally friendly products.
Introduce environmentally friendly clothes, food, transport websites and shops, onto a public space, so as to make members aware of what clothes shops are emitting to the climate crisis and where to buy essentials safely without harming our environment.
Over recent months, the Green Party Women have released statements and ideologies that do not represent me, and I will be applying for a position on the Green Party Women committee, I will hopefully take over a role on the when the elections take place in October. I strongly disagree with many announcements the Green Party Women have made and attitude towards many members of the party. I firmly feel that if elected as Women Young Green co-chair this August, I would collaborate and liaise with the Green Party women, and having someone on the both Committees would represent young people in our party effectively and conscientiously.
Furthermore collaborating with other liberation groups to ensure a well rounded system, while also the Young Greens Executive board, and introducing similar objectives and sharing ideas. Having to make a significant change in how we operate, due to the COVID-19 circumstances, operations inside the party have changed, and in order to keep everyone safe and contented meetings, talks and new movements will take place online, ensuring all individuals can participate. As well as this Young Green Women standing in elections around the country and internationally will not only be supported and encouraged, but also celebrated.
I would bring my enthusiasm, eagerness to learn, to the role, whilst meeting like minded people who share similar values and want to fight Climate change as well as social justice in our modern day society. I am excited to learn new skills, whilst also gaining experience from my mistakes along the way, and hope you will consider voting for me.
