Candidate Statement
Right now, we need bold, progressive, and strong leadership across all areas of the Young Greens. In these times of uncertainty, we must act in solidarity with all members and our fellow social and environmental justice movements.
As SPC Co-Chair this year, I've advocated for greater member participation in our internal democracy. Executive Committee minutes and reports have been delivered consistently throughout the year, and have been made available on the members' website. Not only this, but I also chaired the Accountability Session and Q&A at the Autumn event, providing our members in Manchester and the rest of the North West a real opportunity to hold our elected Executive Committee to account.
SPC doesn't make political decisions, but we must champion marginalised communities within our structures to ensure that all voices, especially those that are often forgotten, are heard and are listened to.
Recently, I've worked with our fantastic Liberation Group Co-Chairs and Executive Committee members to implement an ambitious programme of Liberation Group Committee elections. This means that for the first time in years we can empower and promote the voices of all members of our Liberation Groups - at a crossroads, we will listen and amplify marginalised voices. To do this, we must ensure that marginalised communities are absolutely supported in our structures, and across the whole organisation.
SPC upholds our Constitution and Standing Orders, but it must also stand up for our members' rights to hold our elected members to account. I'll continue to strengthen our accountability processes and ensure that all of our elected officials can be truly held to account regularly throughout the year.
Working across all Regions of England and Wales, we must deliver campaigns and opportunities across the whole country, and I'll make sure that this happens on a structural level, with real integration in our procedures.
Next year, I'll continue to forge and maintain strong relations with all the other bodies in the Young Greens to make sure our guiding documents are placed at the heart of decision-making.
