- Non-Portfolio Officer
Candidate Statement
I am applying to be a Young Greens Non-Portfolio Officer because I want to support the youth wing in holding the main party to account, especially on issues such as diversity and equality, as well as to improve the representation of young people in politics.
Too many times, both in politics and in the workplace, I have been the youngest voice in the room and it is my mission to change that. I have been an active member of the Young Greens since participating in the 30 Under 30 scheme in 2018, representing us on both a local and national stage. For example:
- Running in the 2019 general election against Jacob Rees-Mogg, participating in live and pre-recorded TV and radio interviews, dealing with the press, writing literature and competiting in hustings and debates.
- Facilitating the workshop "Holding Your Elected Representatives to Account: How to Lobby" at the 2020 Bath and North East Somerset Youth Climate Summit.
- Speaking about my experiences in politics as a guest speaker at a Parliment Project "Young Women in Politics" event (2019).
- Representing the Green Party at the 2019 Bath and North East Somerset Climate Hustings.
- Member of the 2018 Young Greens Media Sub-Committee.
With my career-based experience in marketing, communications and event planning, my Green Party experience lends itself to the role of Campaigns Officer which I would be best suited for as a Non-Portfolio Officer.
I think the Young Green's efforts should be balanced between both internal and external campaigns. Internally, the Young Greens need to be the ones to address privilage within the Green Party, raise awareness of political exclusion and lead systematic change to include those who identify as non-male, LGBTQIA+, People of Colour, disabled, neurodiverse, or low-income. Externally, the Young Green's support for a Green New Deal post-COVID 19 is essential, we should be engaging with institutional bodies such as education, public sector, religious organisations, local politics and third sector about Green opportunities.
Thank you for your consideration, and I will ask you to join me in strengthening the voice of the Young Greens both on a party and on a bi-national level.
