Candidate Statement
I'm Emma, based in Oxford, and I'm standing to be a member of the Women Young Greens Committee.
While women- and femme-identifying people's rights continue to be under threat globally, feminism is entering - at least the Western - liberal mainstream, often divorced from an analysis of class, race and other forms of oppression. I want to help re-build the Women Young Greens group in a way that recognises intersectionality is more than a convenient buzzword. I feel it is particularly important for us to stand against transphobia not only in wider society but also the Green Party itself, so we can provide a counter-force to transphobic streams within our party. Having grown up in Germany, I'd also be keen to explore more international links and collaborations as part of the group.
About me: I've just finished my undergraduate degree in History & Politics. I specialised in gender-related issues (writing my dissertation on the history of menstruation). I'm about to start a Master's in history. During my undergrad degree, I've been involved with the Oxford Young Greens, have helped organise my college's Feminist Festival, participated in a philosophy reading group on feminism and have been involved with Turl Street Homelessness Action, a local group providing meals and support for homeless and vulnerably housed people. I've picked some things up here that I hope can be useful to the committee and wider group!
