- Which role are you applying for?:
- Under 18 Young Greens Co-Chair
Candidate Statement
My reasons for wanting to be a part of this group are really quite simple. I look at the Green Party as a community of people who desire change and this change is exactly the kind that I would love to see across the country, and across the world. This includes hoping to lower carbon emissions across the country in an effort to beat climate change as it really is the biggest long-term threat to the human race at the minute. Also, the party’s vehement support of electoral reform is also something I see eye to eye with completely because of the ghastly democratic deficit created by the current repugnant First Past the Post voting System. Finally, I also really admire how the Green Party look out for the human rights of those who are marginalised in our society (like the trans community and people a part of the BAME community too). Because of these reasons, I really would like to help the party in some way or another to help them be heard and I feel that this can be done from a position in the Under 18 Young Greens.
This past year I personally have tried to take action on what I believe by doing some small things –like walking and cycling to places as much as possible, and doing an assembly at my school about sustainability (where a friend and I told the rest of our Sixth Form the benefits of supporting for the Greens in terms of aiding the environment). My actions haven’t all been minimal as I also have done some larger things like sharing leaflets around my town and school regarding the harrowing effects that can ensue as a result of humankind’s lack of care for the earth (and her wellbeing), and how these effects can be alleviated or eradicated completely through a few changes in our quotidian lives.
While I am satisfactorily pleased my actions this past year, I am aware that they are trully quite minimal when paralleled to the action that needs to be taken in order to truly cause genuine societal alteration and if I could earn this role for which I am currently applying for, I would try and do everything I could in order to help contribute to this change whether this is by planning a plethora of events around my area and around the country to help people learn more about the party or just by using my social media presence to broadcast this message to my friends and followers alike.
This party truly is a remarkable thing and if I can do a service to it through being a part of this group, that really would be something fantastic for me, and I would ensure that of would be fantastic for the party as well.
However you respond to this statement, I’d just love to thank you for your consideration and time of my application for this role.
